The incident happened on Thursday, May 25 just after 5:30 p.m., when the New Rochelle Police Department's Harbor Patrol was told that a man was seen floating in the water in a channel leading out from the New Rochelle Marina to Long Island Sound.
The Harbor Patrol then responded and was able to pull the man out, who was unconscious and unresponsive. Officers began attempting lifesaving measures while bringing him to shore to take him to a local hospital, according to Captain J. Collins Coyne of the New Rochelle PD.
Once there, the man, identified as White Plains resident Jose Sanabria, age 62, was pronounced dead.
The investigation into Sanabria's death is currently ongoing, and authorities are awaiting results from the Medical Examiner's Office. No foul play is currently suspected, Collins said.
